I am a San Francisco Bay Area native, former apprentice midwife to Lis Worcester, and mother to three young girls. I am also passionate about nutrition, particularly during pregnancy, and offer nutrition consults to help you have the healthiest, most vital pregnancy and baby (or babies!) possible. I follow the precepts of traditional eating, and am excited to use this blog to share how the western medical world is finally catching on to what the human has instinctually known for millennia.
Curious about a particular aspect of nourishing yourself or your baby? Feel free to email me questions about nutrition for conception, pregnancy and postpartum. Let me know if you would like me to make your question anonymous; I will answer your question here on my blog My email is fertilefuture @ mail.com (no spaces); please put “Ask Raven” in the subject line. Thanks!

I love reading your blog, Raven and look forward to watching it grow. I want to read more about the nutritional programs you are asking your midwifery clients to follow, and what you suggest for different prgnancy related discomforts and issues.
The picture of you and your little one is beautiful!

Is there phytic acid in pumpkin seeds themselves,
or just in the hulls? I eat the hulless ones, and
am interested in growing them. I’m wondering
what kind the pumpkin seeds sold in natural food
stores are. I tried germinating some, but they did
not sprout.

Hi! Phytic acid is in the seeds themselves, and they need to be soaked to access all the great zinc. Hulless seeds won’t sprout, you’ll probably have to buy a pumpkin and dry the seeds to sprout yourself.
